Amboseli is famous for its large, relaxed elephant herds and for the backdrop of Africa’s highest mountain. On a clear morning, the sight of elephants crossing the plains beneath the snows of Kilimanjaro is one of the great images of an African safari. Amboseli’s elephants are among the most studied in the world, and you will often see multi-generational family groups up close. Early morning and late afternoon usually give the clearest views of Kilimanjaro.
The dry months (June–October and January–February) offer the best wildlife viewing and the clearest mountain views. The green season brings lush scenery and fewer visitors.
